No injuries after ammonia leak
An ammonia leak at a West Chicago company shut down traffic for nearly four hours in an industrial area east of the DuPage County Airport.
At about 6:15 p.m., West Chicago firefighters received a call of a "strong ammonia odor" along from a resident heading home Wednesday, said West Chicago Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Matejka.
Matejka said investigators traced the ammonia smell to Wolstenholme International Inc., 870 W. Hawthorne Lane.
According to the company's Web site, the business makes oil based carbon black dispersions and aluminum pellets.
No injuries were reported. Hazardous material crew workers from Wheaton, Carol Stream, Winfield, Geneva and Bloomingdale were among those who assisted on the scene, Matejka said.
