Census Bureau to hire thousands in preparation for 2010 count

The government, planning to hire thousands in the area to work on the 2010 Census beginning next spring, will offer employment tests next month at dozens of locations in Cook and Lake counties.

Field positions start at $17 an hour and office positions start at $13, the Census Bureau said. The jobs are part-time. Further information is available at www.2010censusjobs.gov.

Here's a list of some of the locations tests are being offered in Northwest Cook County and Lake County:

• Buffalo Grove - 9:30 a.m. Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 at the Alcott Center at the Buffalo Grove Park District, 530 Bernard Drive

• Elk Grove Village - 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Elk Grove Village Fire Station #8, 1000 Oakton St.

• Fox Lake - 1:30 p.m. Dec. 4 at Fox Lake Park District, lakefront park building, 71 Nippersink Blvd.

• Grayslake - 1:30 p.m. Dec. 29 at Grayslake Village Hall, 10 S. Seymour

• Gurnee - 9:30 a.m. Dec. 2, Dec. 8, Dec. 30 and 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 22 at the Gurnee Fire Department, 6581 Dada Drive

• Hoffman Estates - 10:30 a.m. Dec. 17 at Schaumburg Township library, Hoffman Estates branch, 1550 Hassell Road

• Niles - 6:45 a.m., 1:30 and 2:45 p.m. Dec. 2 at Metaldyne Inc., 6119 W. Howard St.; 10:30 a.m. Dec. 17 and 9:30 a.m. Dec. 23 at Niles Public Library, 6960 Oakton St.

• Northbrook - 1:30 p.m. Bernard Weineger JCC at Woodland Commons, Room 102, 300 Revere Drive

• Palatine - 2:30 p.m. Dec. 4, Dec. 5, Dec. 11 and Dec. 12 at the Palatine Opportunity Center, 1585 N. Rand Road

• Park Ridge - 10:30 a.m. Dec. 4 at VFW Post 3579, 10 W. Higgins Road

• Streamwood - 10 a.m. Dec. 3 and Dec. 10 at the Streamwood Park District, 550 S. Park Blvd.

• Wauconda - 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13 and Dec. 23 at Wauconda Citizens Activity Center, 100 N. Main St.

• Waukegan - 10 a.m. Dec. 5 and Dec. 12, and 2 p.m. Dec. 8, Dec. 15 and Dec. 29 at Waukegan City Hall, 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Waukegan Public Library, 128 N. County St.
