C-G's Hughes in semis

The 2008 IHSA girls tennis sectional at Cary-Grove got underway Friday with matches deciding who would participate in today's semifinals and perhaps beyond.

In singles play, Cary-Grove's Beth Hughes advanced as well as Rachel Boorom of Crystal Lake South. Prairie Ridge will see both Carolyn Huerth and Niki Cernikova in the semis.

Crystal Lake South will send a pair of doubles teams into the semifinals including Abbey Kolarczyk/Stephanie Brunetti and Liana Semchuk/Laura Roesslein. The fate of Cary-Grove's Rachel Kuchta/Meghan Wleklinski hangs in the balance as they will pick up their potential advancement match which was suspended due to darkness. For the Wolves, both Jackie Schwartz/Julie Schwartz and Lauren Nissen/Hannah Gummerson will contend today.

Jacobs 1, McHenry 0: A Brian Obmalay goal was the deciding factor in this regular-season conclusion for Jacobs (11-7-4, 7-3) which beat McHenry in Fox Valley Conference Valley Division play. Obmalay found the back of the net off a nice feed from Luis Cabral, while Danny Trevor (3 saves) prevented McHenry from scoring.
