Wildflower yard walk this weekend in Algonquin

The Wildflower Preservation and Propagation Committee continues its monthly series of natural yard walks. The walks are open to the public, free of charge. The group is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting native species through preservation, propagation, and education.

The next yard walk is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 at the home of Ken and Deb Behnke, 1248 Hillside View, Algonquin. The public is welcome to visit the Behnke's garden in Algonquin and experience one natural garden in its first year and one in its second year. See forbs for both sun and shade, as well as recently planted native shrubs. There also is a newly constructed rain garden and an easy care koi pond with an 8-foot waterfall.

Directions: From the intersection of routes 31 and 62 go south on 31, past Edgewood to Beach Street, by Luke's hot dog stand, turn right (west) go two blocks and turn left (south) on Hillside View. The home is halfway up the hill on the right side. Parking will be on the road.
