New shows on Wheaton TV

New episodes of Wheaton's city-produced cable access shows are being broadcast on Channel 10 and online at wheaton.il.us. An ash tree reduction program designed to address the threat of an emerald ash borer infestation is under way. Learn what crews are doing to prepare for an infestation on the show "Wheaton Works," which airs at 12:30 p.m. daily. Tag along with the Wheaton Fire Department while they train during a real fire on this month's "The Red and The Blue," which airs at noon daily. Meanwhile, Mayor Gresk introduces viewers to the DuPage chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness during "A Chat with the Mayor." The program is shown at 1 p.m. each day.

Gazebo concert series

The village of Bloomingdale and the Bloomingdale Public Library kick off their summer gazebo concert series with "Little Nashville" at noon June 20. The concert will be held at the Founder's Park Gazebo in front of the library. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Visitors wearing cowboy hats will receive a free gift. There is no need to register.

Bob Love appearance

Former Chicago Bull Bob Love will tell his life story at 6:30 p.m. June 18 at the Bloomingdale Public Library, 101 Fairfield Way. A book signing will follow the presentation. Register in person or reserve a spot by calling the library's adult reference desk at (630)924-2730.

Planning a block party?

Neighborhoods planning block parties in Roselle this summer must complete a block party form at village hall, located at 31 S. Prospect. Barricades are available free of charge from the Public Works Department.

Advice about addresses

Roselle officials are urging residents to post address numbers clearly on houses and mailboxes in case of fire or other emergency. The village recommends posting numbers in well-lit areas or on curbside mailboxes. Four inch or larger plain numbers are preferred over script.

Church plans events

The Sunny Place Church of God will host a "Jailhouse Rock" children's play at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. The church also will sponsor free lawnmower tune-ups from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 21. A youth sponsored garage sale will take place at the church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 20 and 21. Sunny Place Church of God is located at 901 E. Oak St., in Addison. Coffee with the cops

Glen Ellyn police will sponsor Coffee with the Cops at 8 a.m. Saturday on the second floor of the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, 535 Duane St. Police say the intent is for residents to come to an informal setting to get answers about police-related issues. Chief Phil Norton, Deputy Chief Bill Holmer and others will be available for about two hours to answer questions or discuss topics. For details, call (630) 469-1187.

Rotary scholarships

Wheaton's Rotary Club will again offer scholarships to local college students who can show they need financial assistance to complete their junior and senior years. The scholarship offers $3,250 for two years to permanent Wheaton residents that have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. The application deadline is June 20, and applications are available at wheatonrotary.org.

Property tax seminar

The Citizen Advocacy Center will host a program that explores the property tax assessment process with a guest speaker from the Citizen's Action Project in Grayslake at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 182 N. York Road in Elmhurst. For more information, call the Citizen Advocacy Center at (630) 833-4080.

The Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn is awarding more than $14,000 in local community grants. Some of this year's recipients include Glen Ellyn Community Resource Center, Philip J. Rock Center and School, Bridge Communities, Inc., DuPage PADS, Glen Ellyn Public Library, Open Door for Teens, Inc., Glen Ellyn Park District, Glen Ellyn Youth & Family Counseling, Western DuPage Special Recreation Association, Family Shelter Services, B.R. Ryall YMCA, DuPage Senior Citizens Council, DuPage Community Clinic, Humanitarian Service Project and the YWCA of Metro Chicago West Suburban Center.
