Run thru the Hills Results: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department celebrated another successful Run thru the Hills event on April 13, with just over 600 participants.

The overall first-place male and female 5K run winners were Bill Jensen of Algonquin with a time of 17:50, and Monica Rice of Algonquin with a time of 22:47.

The overall first-place winners in the 10K category were Steve Bland of Lake in the Hills with a time of 36:23, and Anna Andrzejewski of Hoffman Estates with a time of 46:43.

Congratulations to all participants for crossing the finish line and helping to make this event such a success. A special thank you to all the volunteers and sponsor who made this event possible.

Playschool Academy enrollment: The Lake in the Hills Playschool Academy 228 Indian Trail is accepting enrollment for fall 2008 preschool. Stop by the Parks & Recreation Department, 600 Harvest Gate, to register your preschooler. Bring a copy of your child's birth certificate, copies of current immunization records, and a recent photo along with your registration fee of $50 for residents and $60 for nonresidents. Class size is limited. There is a 12 to 2 teacher/student ratio. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

For youth

LITH Preschool Open: House The Lake in the Hills Playschool Academy, at 228 Indian Trail, is having an Open House from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 3. Stop by to tour the preschool facility, meet the staff and learn how to register for fall classes. Registration is being accepted at the Parks & Recreation Department, 600 Harvest Gate, LITH.

Early Bird registration for

summer camp: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department's FuntastiCAMP is the ultimate authority in summer friendships and fun. Camp officially begins in June, but if you register by May 1, you'll save up to $10 off per session. Space is limited, so register early.

Due to overwhelming demand we are now offering one-week sessions in both full and half-day camp. Extended time options also are available for those working parents with demanding schedules.

This primarily outdoor program, housed at Hannah Martin Elementary School, includes weekly themes/parties, swimming at Woods Creek Lake, one field trip per session, sports, games, crafts and tons of fun. The energetic, experienced counselors ensure your children are safe, happy and entertained all summer long. Spring Sports: New sessions of spring sports begin in April. The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department offers a wide variety of sports that will appeal to all ages, skill levels, and interests including: T-ball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, skateboarding, lacrosse, and more. Dad & Me Painting Pottery: Kids, team up with Dad to make a one-of-a-kind gift for Mom. Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department, along with instructors from Handmade on Main, as we paint and decorate a beautiful vase to give to Mom on Mother's Day. All materials are included along with a gift tag to write down a special message to Mom.

Class is from 11 a.m. to noon May 3 at Handmade on Main, 320 S. Main Street, Algonquin.

Resident rate is $16; non-resident rate is $19.

Kid's Craft Corner: Enjoy special time with your child as we meet to share in making a Mother's Day craft. Join instructor, Deena Ciavarella, in the Lake in the Hills Village Hall lower-level classroom from noon to 12:45 a.m. May 5. Skill enhancement may include scissors and glue use, painting, as well as creative and imaginative thinking. Dress for messy fun. Class sizes are limited, so register early. Adult participation is required. All ages welcome. Resident fee is $10 parent/child and $7 for each additional child; and nonresident fee is $12 for each parent/child and $8 for each additional child.

Mom & Me Manicures: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department invites moms and daughters, age 2 to 16, to share quality time together while enjoying a manicure with nail art. What a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. Munchies and beverages will be served. Manicures provided by ABC School of Nails & Technology, 14 E. Miller Road. Mark your calendars for 1 to 3 p.m. May 10. Resident rate is $25 and $12 for each additional child; nonresident $18 to bring grandma along; nonresident rate $30 plus $14 for each additional child and $22 to bring grandma along.

Magic Class: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has a magical new program available for kids from 5 to 12 years of age. Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they learn a collection of fascinating and mesmerizing tricks in a Magic Class taught by Gary Kantor. Amaze family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind-reading skills, and much more.

All materials are provided. Each participant will receive a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped together by and always learn tricks that are age appropriate.

Class is scheduled from 7 to 7:55 p.m. May 15 in the Village Hall Community Room. Resident fee is $18; nonresident fee is $22.

For adults

18-Plus Men's Soccer League: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is now forming soccer leagues for men 18 years and older. Teams consist of 11 players, and the number of games will be based on the number of teams registered. Games will be played at Normandy Park, 680 Normandy Lane.

Monthly Mom Topic: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has partnered with the McHenry County Chapter of Mothers & More to offer free monthly outings for moms looking to educate and inspire themselves. A new topic or speaker is present monthly.

Join the group at 7 p.m. Monday in the village hall, 600 Harvest Gate for an important discussion about the Six Essentials for Health.

For seniors

On the Bus We Go: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department invites all area seniors to join us for a fun day at the Shedd Aquarium. Enjoy the Oceanarium Wild Reef, Lizards and the Komodo King, Amazon Rising, Caribbean Reef and Waters of World.

On Wednesday, the group will depart from village hall at 9 a.m. sharp and return around 4 p.m.

Resident rate for transportation only is $7. Nonresident rate for transportation only is $9. Aquarium admission fee for seniors (65-plus) is an additional $16. Don't forget your spending money.

Senior Afternoon Bingo: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department will host a monthly bingo game in village hall Multipurpose Room for seniors, age 65 and older. Join the group from 1 to 3 p.m. on May 16 and enjoy an afternoon of bingo. Snack and coffee will be provided. Registration is being accepted at the Parks & Recreation Department. Resident rate is $2; nonresident rate is $3.
