Briefs: Guilty in Aurora shooting
A 26-year-old Aurora man was found guilty of attempted murder and other offenses in a July 4, 2006, shooting that led to a large police chase in Aurora. Cevin Y. Stanford was convicted Friday by Kane County Judge Grant Wegner in the shooting of three teenagers. Stanford faced a bench trial earlier this month. Police said Stanford and another man opened fire on the teenagers and drove off. The pair was later chased by officers. He faces a minimum 26-year sentence when he is sentenced June 13. Stanford also is awaiting a trial in an unrelated May 2004 slaying.
Wheaton man sentenced
A judge has sentenced 26-year-old Aaron Bundy of Wheaton to 15 years in prison for an April 2007 gang-related shooting in Wheeling. Bundy, of 1677 Trowbridge Court, wanted revenge for an earlier stabbing of a fellow gang member, prosecutors said. He and his friends came upon the victim and his girlfriend near the 1300 block of Wye Court in Wheeling and Bundy critically shot the man. A jury convicted Bundy in November of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He faced six to 30 years in prison.
