Wrap: Streamwood notches 1st win

The Streamwood softball team recorded its first win of the season Wednesday, coming up with a 3-run seventh inning to down Upstate Eight Conference foe Neuqua Valley 3-2 in Naperville.

Timely hitting from Melissa Abraham (2b), Adrienne Pisano (2-for-3, 2b) and Arella Gallione (2-for-3) led the Streamwood offense.

The big hit was a game-winning RBI off the bat of Beth McRill.

Barb Posinger went the distance allowing 7 hits while striking out six for the Sabres (1-4).

Softball

Hampshire 7, CL Central 3: Trailing 2-0 after the first inning, Hampshire (6-2) picked things up to win this nonconference contest over Crystal Lake Central. Tegan Singleton was inside the circle for the victory striking out three in 6¿ innings of work while allowing just 1 run on 5 hits.

Plate efforts were led by Jessica Kraus who had a 2-run home run, Kristy Wood (2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Megan Roadcamp (3-for-4, 2b, run).

"We played a fantastic game all around," said coach Ken Bram. "It was a nice win for us."

Cary-Grove 11, Prairie Ridge 4: Going 3-for-4 with 2 home runs, Ellen Jesse led Cary-Grove (5-2) in this Fox Valley Conference crossover victory over Prairie Ridge (4-2) while nabbing her third straight game with a home run.

Kelly Smith went 2-for-4 with a home run, while Kristen Bauer was inside the circle for the win. Bauer allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits while striking out five.

The Wolves were led offensively by Johanna Turner (3-for-3) and Anna Patras (4-for-4). Turner endured the loss allowing 9 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits in 5 innings of work.

St. Edward 10, Aurora Central 0: Led by Kristina Brockner (2-for-4, 2b, 4 RBI), Kelly Knott (4-for-5, 3 runs) and Erin McGraw (1-for-3, 2 runs), St. Edward (5-3, 1-0) earned this Suburban Catholic Conference win.

Sarah Field (4 IP, 2 hits, 7 strikeouts) got the win, while Meghan Petersen (hit, 3 strikeouts) came in to toss two innings of relief.

Bartlett 13, Waubonsie Valley 0: Shutting out the Waubonsie Valley offense allowing just 2 hits, Lauren Wydra helped Bartlett (7-1, 3-0) to this 13-0 Upstate Eight Conference win. Providing more than enough run support were teammates Nicole Beck (2 doubles, triple), Megan Morales (2b) and Callie Dennison (2b).

Girls soccer

Prairie Ridge 1, Grayslake North 0: Midway through the first half, Tasha Pinkley found the back of the net helping Prairie Ridge (1-2) to its first win of the season as it opened up Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play.

Kyli Humm had a big day in goal for the Wolves recording 11 saves to preserve the shutout.

Wheaton Academy 9, Westminster Christian 0: Peppered with shots from the opening buzzer, Brittnie Feitlich had a tremendous showing in goal for Westminster Christian (0-4, 0-1) tallying 32 saves in a losing effort.

St. Charles East 3, Larkin 0: Despite a 10-save effort from Anna Goodlove, Larkin (2-4-1) dropped this Upstate Eight Conference meeting with the Saints.

Hampshire 4, Marengo 1: Christine Schumacher scored 2 goals and Alex Field had a goal and an assist to lead Hampshire (3-1-1, 1-0) to this Big Northern East win.

Lauren Balistreri added a goal, Fummi Makinde has an assist and Alex Heinrich made 1 save in goal for the Whip-Purs.

College softball

Judson swept at Stritch: Judson (16-15, 7-6) fell to Cardinal Stritch twice on the road, 2-1 and 2-0. The Eagles were no-hit by Stritch's Val Stramowski in Game 2.

In Game 1, Judson's only hit off Stramowski was Lizzy Jacobson's sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning. Aimee Ewert took the loss for Judson as she went six innings and had 4 strikeouts.

In Game 2, Jacobson struck out three in 6 innings to take the loss.
