Run Thru the Hills: Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department for the ninth annual Run Thru the Hills event on April 13.
Bring the whole family. There are walk, run, and strolling distances for all levels. Each participant will receive a technical race shirt and "goodie bag", as wells as the opportunity to enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast provided by the Lake in the Hills Rotary Club. Pre-registration is available online at www.lith.org. Early packet pick up and registration is available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 12 at Running Depot, 30-E N. Williams St. in Crystal Lake.
Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. The 5K/10K race begins at 8 a.m. followed by the kids' molehill races at 9:15 a.m. All races begin and end at the Lake in the Hills Movie Theater, 311 Randall Road in Lake in the Hills.
Playschool Academy enrollment: The Lake in the Hills Playschool Academy 228 Indian Trail, is accepting enrollment for fall 2008 preschool. Stop by the Parks & Recreation Department, 600 Harvest Gate, to register your preschooler. Bring a copy of your child(s) birth certificate, copies of current immunization records, and a recent photo along with your registration fee of $50 for residents and $60 for nonresidents. Class size is limited. There is a 12:2 teacher-student ratio. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
For youth
Early Bird registration for summer camp: Early Bird Registration-Summer Camp The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department's FuntastiCamp is the ultimate authority in summer friendships and fun. Camp officially begins in June, but if you register by May 1, you'll save up to $10 off per session. Space is limited, so register early.
Due to overwhelming demand we are now offering one-week sessions in both full and half day camp. Extended time options also are available for those working parents with demanding schedules.
This primarily outdoor program, housed at Hannah Martin Elementary School, includes weekly themes/parties, swimming at Woods Creek Lake, one field trip per session, sports, games, crafts and tons of fun. The energetic, experienced counselors ensure your children are safe, happy and entertained all summer long.
Mad Science -- Oooey Gooey Stuff -- Ages 6 to 12: Join the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department, along with a real Mad Scientist, to explore the science behind slime, putty and stuff that sticks. Learn how hook and loop fasteners like Velcro make things stay put, and test out glues to find the King of Cling. Class is from 6 to 8 p.m. April 16 in the village hall community room. Resident fee is $31; nonresident fee is $38.
Spring Sports: New sessions of spring sports begin in April. The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department offers a wide variety of sports that will appeal to all ages, skill levels, and interests including: T-ball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, skateboarding, lacrosse and more.
Spring Training Baseball, ages 7-9: Get prepared for the upcoming baseball season with The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department.
Join experienced baseball coaches from Sports R Us to improve your game. Practice your throwing, fielding, base running, pitching, hitting and game strategies. A practice game will be played each day to incorporate the skills taught and help get you playing at the top of your game. Bring a baseball mitt and water bottle to each practice.
Practices held from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Saturdays April 5 to May 10. Resident rate is $43; nonresident rate is $53.
Recess @ Pump It Up, ages 5 to 11: Recess is a supervised, fun-filled exercise program designed for kids ages 5 to 11. This one-hour program includes stretching, games, exercise, and fitness incorporating Pump It Up's custom, inflatable play structures and huge arenas. The energetic and friendly staff is always on hand to supervise and encourage your child to perform at his or her best and to set new personal goals. Recess is fitness made fun. Class meets from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 8-29 at the Pump It Up facility at 1095 Pingree Road, Crystal Lake. Resident fee is $48; nonresident fee is $53.
For adults
"Crop" Night: Join the Parks & Recreation Department in the village hall multipurpose room from 5 to 11 p.m. April 4 for a night of fun, laughter, and creativity as you scrapbook your memories. Enjoy the ample space available to spread out your supplies and scrapbook with family and friends. Fee is $7 and includes snacks, pizza, drinks and a door prize. Pre-registration is required.
18-Plus Men's Soccer League: Enjoy playing one of the world's favorite sports … soccer. The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is now forming soccer leagues for men 18 years and older. Teams consist of 11 players, and the number of games will be based on the number of teams registered. Games will be played at Normandy Park, 680 Normandy Lane. For seniors
55-plus Senior Afternoon Bingo: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department is hosting monthly bingo games in the village hall multipurpose room. Come from 1 to 3 p.m. April 18 to enjoy an afternoon of bingo. Snacks and coffee are provided. Registration is being accepted now at the Parks & Recreation Department. Resident rate is $2; nonresident rate is $3.
