Woodpecker Wonders: Who knew there were so many different kinds of woodpeckers right here in McHenry County? From 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, kids ages 8 to 12 can explore the forests and savannas at Pleasant Valley in search of these amazing woodpeckers. We'll be outside the whole time so dress for the weather as we investigate their food, homes and adaptations.
Watch Out for Waterfowl: Adult Program, 8 to 10:30 a.m. April 12 in Glacial Park, at Powers-Walker House, 6316 Harts Road, Ringwood.
New and experienced birders, enjoy a spring walk in beautiful Glacial Park. We will search for migrating waterfowl and other birds in and around Lost Valley Marsh, then return to the Powers-Walker house to compare notes and share refreshments. Dress for the weather and the possibility of wet feet.
Dance of the Woodcock: The woodcock is normally a very shy and elusive bird. In the spring however, the male performs a courtship display that is amazing to behold. The performance, which we will most likely hear more than see, includes acrobatic flight, beautiful song and a floorshow. Dress for the weather and don't be late, as he is very particular about the time and place of his performance.
The all-ages program is from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. April 14 at Living Land Farm, 716 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake.
The adult program is from 7:30 to 9 p.m. April 16 at The Hollows, Route 14 in Cary.
Marsh Music: This program is for all ages from 6:30 to 7 p.m. April 26 at Exner Marsh, Lakewood entrance, Lake in the Hills.
Would you like to see and hear the magic of the marsh without having to hike far? This beginning bird watching program will introduce you to the sights and sounds of marsh bird life with games, activities and bird viewing from a platform observation deck. Binoculars and a spotting scope will be provided. Dress for the weather.
