Stop coming back to taxpayers for more
How much is enough?
Every year multiple government agencies come to tax holders saying they need more money. This is despite the fact that the school system and county government automatically get more money from the increase in assessed value on our homes and business buildings.
Did anyone notice their home value didn't go up in value this last year but went down and they will still pay more in property taxes in 2008?
Here are a few analogies to put this in perspective. When you car breaks down and you don't have the money to fix it, you tell the mechanic to fix what has to be fixed so the car runs. When times are tough, the senior manager is told he has to cut staff and expenses to the bone or the company will go bankrupt and no one will have a job. The point is that we are all responsible for our own finances. We have to save for that new car or new house and unplanned expenses. When times are tough we have to cut back on spending!
Why didn't the DuPage County Board balance their budget to avoid having to ask voters for more money? Why hasn't the District 200 school system been saving for the past 50 years for a new Hubble school? Why is it that government always threatens its citizens with cuts to law enforcement staff or elimination of sports programs, extra curricular activities or teacher jobs? Maybe our government and school administrators need to start taking pay cuts or lose their jobs in the same way top managers and executives at private companies take pay cuts or get fired when they come in over budget year after year. When is it time to stand up and say enough is enough?
