Child's World Conference to be held Nov. 14

The 21st annual Practical Ideas for the Child's World Conference will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake.

The keynote speaker is Geoff Akins, bubbleologist, author, speaker and entertainer. Akins will address "The Art of Wonder" and will demonstrate how he uses the "wonders" of bubbles, magic and storytelling as a way to capture and redirect a child's attention.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with signup for 36 different workshop choices throughout the morning, followed by opening remarks at 8 a.m. The conference will end at 1 p.m. Staff Development certificates are awarded to conference participants. These can be applied toward the in-service hours required by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. Continuing Professional Development Units are available for teacher recertification.

Exhibits and vendors will be located in the MCC commons area to share information on products and services for the early childhood educator.

Fee is $35 for the general public; $20 for MCC students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education classes. To request a schedule, call Amy Carzoli at (815) 455-8764 or Marie V. Frostman at (815) 479-7559.
