Carmel advances at Zion-Benton by grabbing third spot
East Suburban Catholic Conference champion Carmel earned the third and final team sectional qualifying spot in the Class 3A Zion-Benton boys golf regional play at Shepherd's Crook Golf Course on Tuesday.
Highland Park, led by the medalist round of 72 by junior Michael Grayson, won with 310. Lake Forest (317) placed second, followed by the Corsairs (324). Deerfield tied with Zion-Benton at 332, 1 stroke better than Warren. Stevenson (335) finished seventh and Libertyville (355) was eighth.
Jack Watson's 75 was key for Carmel, which also counted scores from Billy White (82), Doug Meyer (83) and John Krzmarzick (84).
Individual qualifiers to Monday's Lake Forest sectional, which will be played at Lake Bluff Golf Course, were Warren's Jon Frericks (79), Zack Kim (82) and Brian Sears (84), Stevenson's Nick Geissler (80) and Ryan Prince and Trevor Osmond (84s), and Libertyville's Alex Queenan (82).
Class 2A Prairie Ridge regional: Crystal Lake Central was the class of the field at Prairie Isle Golf Course, where senior Riley Bauman netted medalist honors with a 78. The Tigers carded a 326, ahead of Prairie Ridge (332) and Hampshire (352).
Wauconda placed sixth with a 395 but qualfied two individuals - junior Henry Manahan (91) and sophomore Steve Hudec (98) - to Monday's Wheaton Academy sectional at Pheasant Run Golf Course in St. Charles.
