Favorites: Barrington, Prospect
Defending champion: Prospect. The Knights were champs of the dual meet season, going 11-0 for the second straight season. Their closest call came against Barrington when the teams tied with scores of 160 at Bonnie-Dundee in Carpentersville. Prospect won the tiebreaker with its fifth score. That was Barrington's only loss.
Top individuals: Senior Taylor Quinn of Barrington is the defending champion. She shot a 77 at Arlington Lakes last fall to edge Prospect's Karly Grouwinkel (79), who like Quinn, has been a leader for the Knights this fall. Defending Class 4A state champion, senior Kris Yoo of Conant, placed third last year with an 80. Also cracking the top 15 a year ago were Fremd senior Kelly Voigt (86), Barrington senior Mary Meg Gerbich (89), Hersey senior Catherine Park, Barrington senior Kelly Muskat (93), Barrington senior Julie D'Amico and Buffalo Grove junior KC Dunne (3).
Who's hot? Hersey junior Megan Rogowski has fired some impressive scores in the 30s the past few weeks. She was 17th last fall with a 97. Kelly Muskat shared medalist honors with BG freshman standout Grace Kill at Makray Memorial in Barrington last week. Kil has been a top shooter this fall for the Bison, who have received some solid rounds from junior K.C. Dunne.
Last year's team scores: At Arlington Lakes: Prospect 326, Barrington 352, Hersey 374, Conant 379, Fremd 389, RM-EG co-op 395, Palatine 411, Buffalo Grove 425, Hoffman Estates 437, Schaumburg 449.
Big Ten commitment: Yoo is headed to play for the University of Wisconsin, while Quinn will tee it up for the University of Minnesota.
