9/11 remembrances in Lake County
• Wauconda High School: ceremony begins U.S. Navy honor/color guard at 6:45 p.m. during the sophomore football game, followed at 6:55 p.m. by a combined community color guard. At 7 p.m., Brigadier Gen. Ronald Morrow will give a remembrance speech. At 7:10 p.m., the national anthem will be performed by Wauconda High School, middle school and Matthews Middle School bands. Varsity football game follows at 7:30 p.m.
• Countryside Fire Protection District: 8:45 a.m. ceremony at the flag at the headquarters building on Deerpath Drive just south of Route 60 in Vernon Hills. Speeches, ringing of a bell and silent reflection will be part of the event.
• Vernon Hills Family Aquatic Center: Fields of Gold planting, 9 to 11 a.m. at the center on Aspen Drive just south of Route 60 in Vernon Hills. Five thousand daffodil bulbs will be planted. Local school children and Vernon Hills Park District have planted bulbs since 2002 at area parks.
• The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District: memorial service at 9:30 a.m. at Station No. 51, 115 Schelter Road, Lincolnshire. Call (847) 634-2512.
•Stevenson High School: the third annual remembrance ceremony in the school's Garden of Peace, Hope and Remembrance, just north of the pond along Route 22. It begins with a light breakfast at the Art Patio (just north of the garden) at 9:45 a.m., followed by the ceremony at 10 a.m. at the "Quest for Peace" sculpture. The event, sponsored by Students Helping Soliders, Diversity Council and the Stevenson High School Community Foundation, is free and open to the public.
