McHenry County College Fit for Life 5K to raise funds

The Fitness Center at McHenry County College will host the Fit for Life 5K Walk/Run 2009 at 8:30 a. m. Sunday, Oct. 4, with check-in beginning at 7 a.m. at Lippold Park on Route 176, just west of Route 14, Crystal Lake.

Proceeds from the race will go toward purchasing equipment for the special needs population to use at the MCC Fitness Center.

Some of these people include members of Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association, Special Education District of McHenry County, along with people with traumatic brain injuries, cerebral palsy and people with various other disabilities. The MCC Fitness Center offers modified techniques and equipment to benefit people with disabilities, including those wheelchair bound.

Past equipment purchases have included a NU-STEP, two total body conditioners with removable seats to accommodate wheel chairs, and two rowers that sit a little higher off the ground.

The MCC Fitness Center promotes health and fitness to MCC students, staff, faculty and the public. Fitness Center staff is available to help anyone start a fitness program.

Cost to race is $30 through race day. To volunteer or to register as a walker or runner, call Nikki Lewis at McHenry County College Fitness Center at (815) 455-8551.
