Speeding crackdown ongoing:

The Mount Prospect Police Department began its second "Speed Week" of the warm weather season Monday.

Officers detailed to radar speed enforcement are assigned to major roadways with the sole focus aimed at identifying speeding motorists. Last year, more than 230 speeding citations were written over a six day period. "The number of tickets issued is a good indication that our citizen's concerns regarding speeding vehicles are valid and merit our attention," said Sergeant Michael Eterno, the department's traffic unit supervisor.

Outdoor Concert to be Held at Senior Center

The Reunion Jazz Orchestra will return for its fifth summer performance at the Arlington Heights Senior Center. The concert will take place on the center's patio, weather-permitting. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held indoors. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, with the doors opening at 7:00 p.m.

The Reunion Jazz Orchestra has performed at the Senior Center for past four years and is back by popular demand. All members of the RJO share a unique background. Every member is a "son of Notre Dame" - either from Notre Dame High School in Niles, Illinois or from that other Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. RJO has as authentic a swing as you'll find anywhere, but it also plays ballads, progressive, some Latin, and some powerful big band rock.

The concert is free and no reservations or tickets are needed. Complimentary refreshments served from 7:00-7:30 p.m. by the Senior Center's Advisory Council. The concert is open to all. For more information, call (847) 253-5532.
