Torch Run: After an 8 p.m. Mass, the annual torch run in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the patroness of the Americas, will take place at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 1150 N. River Road in Des Plaines. Representatives from Hispanic parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago will carry torches blessed by the Rev. Miguel Martínez, rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to their respective parishes. Upon arriving at their parishes, runners will place the lighted torch at a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the "mañanitas" (songs that honor Mary, the Mother of God) will be sung, followed by Mass at approximately 5 a.m.

Drum circle: Unity Northwest Church, 259 E. Central Road, Des Plaines, will host a Drum Circle at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11. Bring your own drum or percussive instrument, or one will be provided for you.

Living Christmas Tree: Community Presbyterian Church, 407 N. Pastor honored: A special Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated Sunday, Dec. 13, at St. Theresa Church in Palatine in honor of the title bestowed on its pastor, the Rev. Monsignor Richard M. Zborowski. His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, bestowed the honor and the title of monsignor for the work done in support of the seminaries in Poland and the extern priests from Poland who serve in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Monsignor Zborowski traveled to the Bialystok, Poland, where the ceremony took place Nov. 28. He formally received the honor from His Excellence Archbishop Edward Ozorowski. Monsignor Zborowski has served as pastor of St. Theresa for the past eight years. The Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m.
