Scouting South Elgin @ Lake Park
Upstate Eight Conference
South Elgin (5-1, 2-1) at Lake Park (5-1, 4-0)
Game time 7:30 p.m. today
Last year Did not play.
Last week South Elgin 17, Bartlett 14; Lake Park 28, East Aurora 0.
Outlook These two met once before, Lake Park winning 30-0 in 2006. Times have changed. After that 0-9 season and two of 3-6, playoff-eligible South Elgin joins four teams with 1 UEC loss, trailing co-leaders Lake Park and St. Charles East. "They play four quarters every game that they've had," said Lancers coach Andy Livingston. Coached by longtime Larkin leader Dale Schabert, the Storm trailed Bartlett 14-0, held without a first down until 3:35 remained in the third quarter. Quarterback John Menken threw the game-winning fade pass to 6-4 Domico Failla, but it's another 6-4 receiver, Jake Kumerow, who gets most of the ink. Lake Park, stymied in the mud, led East Aurora just 6-0 at halftime, and on a 36-yard Jake McNamara punt return at that. McNamara, Artie Monaco and Clay Cooper figure to get plenty of carries for the Lancers, who figure to have more pep with the return of quarterback Larry Nawrot and linebacker Ryan Gerts from injuries. Crucial, of course, will be the play of defensive tackles Charlie Perrecone and Matt Kaiser, offensive linemen Phil Robles and David "Turk" Turczyniak. The Lancers' game plan is simple, Livingston said: "Run the ball."
Next St. Charles North at South Elgin; Waubonsie Valley at Lake Park.
