Dist. 203 names principal:
Nancy Voise will take over as principal of Jefferson Junior High School in Naperville this fall. Voise has been serving as principal of John F. Kennedy Middle School in Plainfield since 2007. She will be replacing Mark Pasztor who will become assistant principal of Kennedy Junior High School in Lisle.
NCC honors Wheaton man:
A Wheaton man, Nicholas Guido, has been named Outstanding Senior Man at Naperville's North Central College - the highest award presented to a member of the Class of 2009. Guido will graduate with a major in social sciences and history and a minor in secondary education. He is the son of Carmen and Linda Guido and a graduate of Wheaton Warrenville South High School. The award was presented during North Central College's Honors Convocation, an annual spring event that publicly recognizes student excellence in academics and co-curricular activities.
Dist. 203 updates project cost:
Additional soil remediation could cost Naperville Unit District 203 up to $160,000 more than expected for its $11 early childhood center. Soil issues go as deep as seven feet in some areas of the site near Huntington Estates and average about four feet. Because of the soil issues and rainy weather, the project is about six to eight weeks behind schedule but still is expected to open in fall 2010. Meanwhile, Naperville Central High School's latest construction bids for steel have come in $2 million below projections.
Volunteers rehab homes:
More than 500 volunteers turned out to rehab 26 homes in Aurora through an effort organized by Rebuilding Together Aurora. Formerly known as Christmas in April, Rebuilding Together Aurora is a not-for-profit organization that provides free repair for houses owned by people who are elderly, disabled or low-income on the last Saturday in April. The group is a regional affiliate of Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit organization. Businesses, civic organizations, churches and individuals donate building materials, financial support and labor.
