Fire cause $25,000 damage to Glendale Hts. home
A dryer overheated Wednesday night resulting in a fire that caused $25,000 damage to a Glendale Heights home.
According to information provided by the Glenside Fire Protection District, lint and clothes in the dryer at a single-family home at 132 E. Montana Ave. caught fire. The fire extended from the laundry room into other areas of the basement.
A resident unsuccessfully tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher before calling for help about 8:10 p.m., according the report.
The fire was contained to the basement and extinguished without incident, but the home was uninhabitable because of smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters said there were no working smoke detectors in the home. Glenside was assisted by departments from Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Wheaton and Lombard.
