Bartlett police seek input:
Bartlett is seeking comments from the public about its police department as part of an effort to have its accreditation recertified. Residents are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at the village hall council chambers, 228 S. Main St. Comments will also be accepted by phone from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday by calling (630) 540-5109. The assessment team, made up of police chiefs from Texas and Ohio, arrive in the village today for the examination, which, besides the public comments, includes all aspects of the department's policies, procedures, management, operations and support staff. Bartlett police have been accredited since 1997 but must reapply every three years and be in compliance with 462 standards. Palatine chamber movie night:
The Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce hosts an outdoor movie night Sunday, Aug. 23, with a free showing of "Kung Fu Panda" at dusk, about 8:30 p.m., on the wall of Harris Bank on Station Street in downtown Palatine. Parking is in the lot on Greeley Street behind the bank. Popcorn and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for purchase; proceeds benefit the Northwest Cultural Council. Charity softball tourney today:
The Palatine Police and Fire Benevolent Association hosts its 6th annual Charity Softball Tournament today at Birchwood Park in Palatine. The tournament features 14 teams from area fire and police departments, who will compete throughout the day, with the championship game slated for around 4:30 p.m. There will be food and activities for children at the park during the event, which local firefighters and police to raise money that the association donates to local charities, area families in need and fallen or injured firefighters and police officers.
RockStar 101 is tonight:
Consolidated Music of Barrington presents students in three bands from this summer's RockStar 101 workshops 6:30 p.m. today at Langendorf Park, 235 Lions Drive, Barrington. Performing will be Miracle on Fire, Ping Pong Chaos and The Strangers. Admission is free.
Senior Job Club Tuesday:
Schaumburg, Palatine and Wheeling townships will hold their regular Senior Job Club at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Schaumburg Township Hall, 1 Illinois Blvd. in Hoffman Estates. The event is open to job seekers in those townships who are 50 and older.
