MCC to present premiere of faculty-written musical, ‘I’m No Shakespeare’
The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College is hosting the world premiere of “I’m No Shakespeare,” written by MCC music instructor Michael Hillstrom of Woodstock.
This musical comedy illustrates the craziness and insanity of relationships in the 21st century. It tells the story of Kinny, a guy trying to find the love of his life. Navigating the world of all types of dating and aided by his friends, Kinny explores the question many people face: Do we need a significant other, or can we find happiness living a single life?
The cast includes Cesar Pelayo (Harvard), Kendall Berg (Johnsburg), Lorelei Galvicius (McHenry), Misty Hansen (Carpentersville), Spencer Alverez (Crystal Lake), Carla Rivera-Soto (Wonder Lake), Morgan Tolentino-Siazon (Woodstock), Aidan McTague (Huntley), Addyson Oates (Lake in the Hills), McKinley Shines (Marengo), Ivan Leiva (Woodstock), Emiliano De Casas (Union), Skye Schoen (Johnsburg), and Jake Seelye (Harvard).
“I’m No Shakespeare” is directed by Jay Geller (Kildeer) with musical direction by Hillstrom. The production team includes choreographer Randi Jonites (Crystal Lake), assistant director Chelsea Boesiger (McHenry), set designer Dan Frank (Crystal Lake), lighting designer Nicole Weber (Woodstock), social media coordinator Josie Hannon-Geller (Kildeer), and stage manager Molly Stockwell (Johnsburg).
“I’m No Shakespeare” opens Friday, Feb. 27 and runs at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, Feb. 27 to March 7; and 2 p.m. Sundays, March 1 and 8.
Tickets are $17.85 for all students, seniors, MCC employees, alumni, and veterans ($15 at the door), and $23.18 for the general public ($20 at the door). To purchase tickets, visit www.mchenry.edu/blackbox.
The Black Box Theatre at McHenry County College is at 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake. Visitors should park in lot C and enter Building E. The theater will be directly to the right.
