Elgin Public House for sale after owner announces retirement

Seventeen years after fulfilling his longtime dream of opening a restaurant, Elgin Public House owner Greg Shannon has put the downtown staple up for sale, saying it’s time to retire. Shannon announced his decision last week and already has received some interest from people who want to buy the popular pub at 219 E. Chicago St.

Geneva’s former Little Owl back on track for redevelopment

The Geneva City Council this week approved a $290,000 economic incentive plan to facilitate the renovation of the former Little Owl/Flagstone building on the corner of routes 31 and 38. The iconic building at 101-105 W. State St. has been vacant since August 2019.

Revised vision for Liberty Theater property in Libertyville

The future of the long vacant Liberty Theater in downtown Libertyville may be moving to a resolution. An architect for the unnamed owners of the shuttered 1937 theater and adjoining property at Milwaukee and Newberry avenues is returning with another design revision for the proposed re-use of the building to be flanked by two new buildings.

Streamwood’s second recreational marijuana shop to open Friday

Ivy Hall Dispensary opened Friday at 630 S. Sutton Road in Streamwood. It’s the second of two recreational marijuana shops allowed to operate in the village. The Black- and veteran-owned Ivy Hall is the first business to operate under the Illinois Social Equity Program, which provides assistance to people and communities historically impacted by arrests and imprisonment for cannabis offenses. Ivy Hall operates eight other dispensaries, including in Glendale Heights, Crystal Lake, Waukegan, and Bolingbrook.

New chicken wing place will ‘be a great fit’ for Rolling Meadows, owner says

Wing Ding — serving the drummettes and flats of fried fowl in a variety of homemade sauces — is planning to open along the Algonquin Road commercial corridor in Rolling Meadows. The business, set to move into the vacant one-story office building at 1911 Algonquin Road, received approval of a liquor license from the city council this week, allowing it to sell beer and wine alongside wings and other food.

Mundelein Tool Library looking for new home

The Mundelein Tool Library, which has been lending equipment and expertise to do-it-yourselfers for nearly three years, now finds itself in need of a hand. The nonprofit opened in June 2021 in a portion of a village-owned building at 428 N. Chicago Ave., made available rent-free with utilities paid. But the building is under contract to be sold, and the library has to move by July 31.
