Streamwood’s second — and, for now, last — recreational marijuana shop to open Friday

Ivy Hall Dispensary will open Friday in Streamwood, where it will be the second of two recreational marijuana shops allowed to operate in the village.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with village officials at 8:55 a.m. will be followed by giveaways for the first customers of the business at 630 S. Sutton Road.

The Black- and veteran-owned Ivy Hall is the first business to operate under the Illinois Social Equity Program, which provides assistance to people and communities that have been historically impacted by arrests and imprisonment for cannabis offenses. Ivy Hall operates eight other dispensaries, including in Glendale Heights, Crystal Lake, Waukegan, Montgomery and Bolingbrook.

At the 9 a.m. opening, there will be free coffee from Green Joe Coffee, free doughnuts from Country Style Donuts, and the first 150 customers will receive free small frozen Lou Malnati’s pizzas.

Customers from 4 to 7 p.m. will be treated to free burgers from Spoon Burger Food Truck.

The village’s first marijuana shop, Spark’d Dispensary, operates at 1594 Buttitta Drive. Village Manager Sharon Caddigan said the new business means Streamwood now has one dispensary on both the east and west sides of town.

Village regulations allow only two dispensaries on the community.
