Neighbors in the News: Streamwood Park District names new recreation superintendents

The Streamwood Park District announced the promotions of Adam Vasquez to superintendent of Recreation Services and Jake Larson as superintendent of Recreation Programming.

Vasquez has served as Recreation manager for the Streamwood Park District since 2019, where he oversaw athletics, fields, guest services, fitness and aquatics. Prior to his tenure in Streamwood, he worked in several diverse leadership roles in recreation with the Addison and Wood Dale park districts.

Larson’s tenure with Streamwood Park District began 15 years ago when he first served as Athletics coordinator. Since then, he has grown into additional leadership roles, including his most recent position as Recreation manager, where he oversaw many of the district’s sports leagues and athletic programs.

OB-GYN nurse Katie Mayworm of Glenview was selected as Advocate Lutheran General's 2023 Nurse of the Year for her exemplary demonstration of Advocate Health Care’s core nursing values and unwavering delivery of best-in-class care.

“Central to Katie’s exceptional nursing practice is the desire to provide moms and newborns with the safe, supportive, high-quality care they need,” says Amanda Stoeckel, clinical nurse manager. “She is a remarkable role model, a true team player and a knowledgeable, well-respected clinician who is constantly raising the bar in pursuit of excellence.”

In addition to caring for patients, Mayworm, who has been a registered nurse at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, Park Ridge, since 2007, leads and supports hospital-wide initiatives, sits on various committees and serves as a preceptor for new nurses. She is a leader among her peers and has a knack for translating complicated processes into comprehensible information.

Fremont School District 79 announced the hiring of Beth Carmody as principal of Fremont Elementary School for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.

As part of an administrative restructure, Caromody takes over the role from Stefan Ladenburger, who is remaining the principal of Fremont Intermediate School. Ladenburger has served as the principal of both the elementary and intermediate schools since 2013.

Carmody joins Fremont after serving as the K-four principal at Hubbard Woods School in Winnetka since 2016. She was previously the grade three-five principal at Rutledge Hall School in Lincolnwood, as well as the principal of Carmel School in Hong Kong. She also has experience as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher at Lincolnwood School District 74 and as an instructional coach at Deerfield School District 109.

Carmody holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Saint Mary’s College, as well as a master’s degree from National-Louis University and a ESL Certification from Benedictine University.

The North Shore School District 112 Board of Education approved several key administrative positions for the 2024-2025 school year:

James Bock will take on the role of director of Operations, Facilities and Transportation, elevating from his position within the district’s maintenance team, a role he has dedicated himself to since 2020.

Rachel Filippi will transition to the district office, assuming the position of Student Services coordinator. This move comes after a successful five-year tenure as the principal of Sherwood Elementary School.

Kevin Saunders will step into the role of principal at Sherwood Elementary School. Saunders has served as the associate principal of Sherwood since 2020.

Arielle Gleicher was appointed as principal of Wayne Thomas Elementary School. Her educational journey includes her recent role as associate principal at Edgewood Middle School since 2021.

Colleen Goodrich will move to Edgewood Middle School, where she will continue her impactful work as associate principal. Her journey with Wayne Thomas Elementary School began in 2020, with her experience further enriched by her time at Red Oak Elementary School.

Jaclyn Wagner was confirmed as the incoming associate principal of Wayne Thomas Elementary School, bringing with her a year’s experience in a similar capacity at Edgewood.

Additionally, the board approved title changes for two current district administrators. Jeremy Wickham has been approved as the executive director of Technology and Operations, and Jeremy Davis will be the assistant superintendent for Business Services/CSBO. Wickham has been with the district since 2019 in various roles, including associate principal at Oak Terrace and director of Technology. Davis has served as an assistant superintendent since 2021.
