Texas-based Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille plans to open its third Chicago-area location April 15 as part of the ongoing Hawthorn mall redevelopment in Vernon Hills. The free-standing site on the southwest corner of Milwaukee Avenue and Ring Drive has been under construction since last spring on one of three perimeter outlots created specifically for new restaurants.

Fate of Discover Financial Services campus in Riverwoods uncertain

The proposed acquisition of Riverwoods-based Discover Financial Services by Capital One announced last week raises questions about the possible effect on Discover’s suburban headquarters and those who work there. Discover hasn’t shared any plans with the public or Riverwoods village officials, but the head of a nonprofit economic development organization serving Lake County believes Capital One isn’t likely to squander the skilled employee base in the Northern suburbs.

Restaurant week brings deals and special menus to more than 90 eateries

More than 90 restaurants from eight suburban communities are taking part in the 10th Chicago Northwest Restaurant Week that started Friday, March 1, and runs through Sunday, March 10. Diners can expect specialty menus and prices across the communities of Arlington Heights, Elk Grove Village, Itasca, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg, Streamwood and Wood Dale during the 10-day event.

Parking woes could doom planned Durty Nellie’s redevelopment

The clock is ticking on a proposed mixed-use development in downtown Palatine anchored by a re-imagined Durty Nellie’s pub, and time soon could run out because of unresolved parking issues. The project’s Tennessee-based developer, Jonathan Payne, has been unable to figure out how to meet village parking requirements for the proposal, which calls for the iconic nightspot at 180 N. Smith St., to be demolished and replaced with a six-story building.

Nonprofit plans to take therapeutic scuba deeper with $300 million proposal

A Downers Grove-based nonprofit is fundraising for a $300 million underwater education and research facility in North Chicago envisioned as a worldwide attraction for those with disabilities, scientists, and others. Diveheart, which specializes in zero-gravity scuba diving therapy programs, describes the Deep Pool Project as an ambitious initiative with the world’s deepest warm water pool as the centerpiece.
