Factors align to increase need for annual food drive

When they held their first Food Drive in 2004, the staff and attorneys at Lavelle Law probably didn't imagine how their annual effort would evolve. But with social and economic factors continuing to create food scarcity across suburban communities, the Schaumburg-based law firm is ready to drive both awareness and action this fall.

"Each year our food drive provides needed donations for the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry and their efforts to not only combat hunger but to provide dignity and hope," said Lavelle Law Managing Partner Ted McGinn. "With inflation, the reduction in SNAP benefits, and ongoing supply chain issues, the need continues to grow."

The Lavelle Law Charities Food Drive is underway, running through Oct. 27. The three-and-a-half-week event goes well beyond the duration of most food drives and makes participation easy with more than a dozen drop-off locations. The annual campaign also enlists the help of key sponsors including Tony's Fresh Market, which makes a sizable donation as do local businesses including Clearwater Capital Advisors, Britt Industries, Norman Mechanical, Quick Delivery Service, Kleen Air and Tenant Advisors.

The Schaumburg Food Pantry now serves more than 1,000 families each month, an increase of more than 30%. Nonperishable food, baby formula, diapers and more are needed. The Lavelle Law Charities Food Drive has been a significant contributor to the pantry for many years.

"We know that everyone is feeling the pinch of escalating food prices," McGinn said. "But we hope our friends and neighbors will step up as they do each year to help make a difference in the lives of so many families in the surrounding communities."

Residents may drop items off at the following locations through Oct. 27. All items will be delivered by Lavelle Law employees to the Food Pantry that day.
