Glenbard Parent Series to share integrated approach to mitigate substance use/abuse

On Wednesday, April 26, the Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families will present "The Urge: A Personal Story of Struggle from an Addiction Psychiatrist" with Carl Eric Fisher, MD, in two webinars. It will be at noon and 7 p.m. via Zoom. Go to glenbardgps.org for further information and the link to these webinars.

To be placed on a reminder list for GPS events or submit a question in advance, send an email to Gilda Ross, Glenbard District 87 student and community projects coordinator, at gilda_ross@glenbard.org.

Fisher will provide vital insights into addiction and substance abuse. He believes compassion, non-judgmental encouragement and empathy are key factors in helping adolescents move beyond drug or alcohol use. He will examine treatments and strategies that have promise. He also will share his personal struggle with dependency.

Author of "The Urge," Fisher is an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry at Columbia University, where he works in the division of law, ethics and psychiatry. His private practice focuses on innovative and integrated approaches to addiction treatment.

The Glenbard Parent Series is generously sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, Community Consolidated School District 93 Birth to 5 Coalition, Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), College of DuPage, Duly Health and Care, Emmy Gaffey Foundation, Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative, Kids Matter, Kiwanis Clubs of Division 9, Prevention Leadership Team of the DuPage County Health Department, Rosecrance Health Network and Webb-Hutter Family Fund of DuPage Foundation.
