Social emotional learning expert to offer students ways to succeed on April 25 seminar

Ed Dunkelblau, Ph.D., an internationally known speaker on the topics of social-emotional intelligence, humor and health, will conduct a seminar on helping students succeed through social emotional learning (SEL) at the Des Plaines Theatre on Tuesday, April 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The seminar is presented by the Stephen Sexton Training Institute, Maryville Jen School and Des Plaines Theatre. The theatre is located at 1476 Miner Street in Des Plaines.

“Social Emotional Learning helps students succeed and handle their emotions and relationships,” Dunkelblau explained. “Maryville has been working with challenged youth for decades providing care and support designed to achieve the same goals.”

“It is no surprise that Maryville (supports) this seminar and educators in the community should attend to develop the skills required to support students and staff as they navigate these troubled and challenging times,” he said.

Dunkelblau, founder of The Institute for Emotionally Intelligent Learning located in Northbrook, IL, will share:

• An introduction to SEL.

• The value of integrating SEL in academics, discipline and personal interactions.

• SEL's positive impact on school culture.

• Suggestions for teaching SEL in the classroom.

• How SEL can be beneficial in life.

Attendees will be provided with CEUs. The seminar is free but registration is required by calling Gloria Jackson at 847-294-5402 or emailing her at jacksong@maryvillecademy.org

A continental breakfast and beverages will be served.

The generosity of the Sexton family and others who have contributed to the Stephen T. Sexton Memorial Foundation has enabled Maryville to enhance and enrich its training that is directly and indirectly focused on suicide prevention. The training is offered not only to its employees, but also to community members, to other professionals and to parents.
