Learn about the history of EMS care at Lisle Heritage Society program March 23

On Thursday, March 23, the Lisle Heritage Society will host a program on the "History of On-the-Spot Emergency Medical Care" by Paul Ciolino.

Fifty years ago, there were no ambulances, EMTs, or paramedics.

Ciolino will talk about Dr. Stanley M. Zydlo Jr. and his creation of the first emergency medical services program in the world.

In 1972, Dr. Zydlo was the chief of Emergency Room Medicine at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

The medical profession was skeptical about his concept and pushed back powerfully. Through his perseverance, Dr. Zydlo is arguably responsible for saving countless lives worldwide.

The free program will begin at 7 p.m. at the Lisle Park District Recreation Center, 1925 School St. in Lisle. To register, email lisleheritagesociety@gmail.com. It also will be offered via Zoom.

Ciolino, a Chicago native, is a licensed private investigator with expertise in homicide investigation. Over a 35-year career, he investigated hundreds of homicides and violent felonies. His work exonerated five Illinois death row inmates and five more inmates serving life sentences. This earned him special recognition from the governor. He was the lead homicide and child molestation investigator for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, securing over 200 written confessions. Ciolino worked thousands of fraud cases for government and corporate entities. He developed the first fraud program for the Illinois Department of Public Aid, which saved over $20 million in three years.

Ciolino was the first and remains the only private investigator to receive board certification as a Criminal Profiler from the Academy of Behavioral Profiling within the International Association of Forensic Criminologists (IAFC). He is the current president of the International Association of Forensic Criminologists. Over the past 25 years, he has appeared in hundreds of news programs on every major cable and television network in both the United States and Canada. His published works include textbooks and an investigative guide.
