Church of the Cross and Kenneth Young hosted an event in Hoffman Estates

On Jan. 7, 2023, nearly 140 South American migrants were welcomed at Church of the Cross (Presbyterian U.S.A.) in Hoffman Estates for a day-long event organized in partnership with the Kenneth Young Center.

"We offered them hope with food, warm clothes and fellowship," said Rev. Julie Peterson.

The families gathered in the church gymnasium to start their day. They then rotated to various stations throughout the church, including the Lilies of the Field Community Clothes Closet where they picked out gently used and new clothing donated by the congregation and community. A light breakfast was provided by Church of the Cross and a catered lunch was provided by the Kenneth Young Center. Nearly 30 church members and friends also participated in the event alongside the Kenneth Young Center staff.
