College of DuPage, West Chicago High School partner to increase support, transfer opportunities for students
College of DuPage and West Chicago Community High School District 94 leaders recently celebrated a renewed partnership designed to give students early college access and additional planning resources.
The partnership, signed in late August, increases COD's presence in West Chicago's Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program.
Geared toward average to above average students motivated to attend four-year institutions, AVID provides additional support to students to ensure their success in Honors and Advanced Placement courses.
Through the agreement, COD will provide on-site liaisons from its Admissions and Outreach, Counseling, Advising and Transfer Services, Financial Aid and Continuing Education areas.
In the future, the college and West Chicago leaders will work to develop and sustain dual credit partnerships.
College of DuPage President Dr. Brian Caputo said future opportunities in West Chicago could include a pipeline to short-term certificates, apprenticeships and GED credentials as leaders examine additional ways to support student success.
"We believe in the power of education and wholeheartedly understand the benefits of providing equity in learning for all students," Dr. Caputo said. "We are committed to this important charge and look forward to ensuring a seamless transition to COD for West Chicago Community High School students and various community members."
