Northbrook Park District Adventure Campus Hiring Bonus Extended

In order to accommodate high demand for the District's essential Adventure Campus before and after school program, the District initiated a comprehensive strategy in June to attract new staff to the program to serve children enrolled at that time and to help alleviate wait lists.

Due to these hiring efforts, an additional 100 children have been enrolled in the program. All children on the morning wait lists have been accommodated along with all children seeking after school care at Shabonee School. Due to low enrollment, the morning care program at District's Winkelman School has been canceled.

As a result of this campaign, 49 staff members have been hired to date including new hires, renewed commitments from former 2021-2022 school year staff and employees from other Park District departments.

With additional families still on the wait list the District has made the decision to create a second bonus offer for the crucial first shift of the afternoon program at Hickory Point, Wescott, Winkelman, and Willowbrook schools. New hires who apply by August 12 will be eligible for a $1,000 bonus if they commit to three or more days per week starting at 2:15pm or 2:45pm. Other employment benefits include starting pay of $15-$20 per hour, flexible shift ending times from 3:45pm to 5:30pm and free or reduced-cost recreation benefits including fitness, programs and golf.

Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply including educational staff, retirees, college students and high school students. In some cases, high school students with study hall at the end of the day are eligible to apply for early release in order to leave school early to work the first shift at an Adventure Campus site.

Paid training is provided. For high school and college aged students, a position with Adventure Campus can provide the opportunity to earn money, learn responsibility, gain job and leadership skills, and build resumes and college applications. Adults of all ages find value in being connected with the community in an impactful way. Adventure Campus staff members enjoy flexible schedules, experience the joy of working with children, and provide a much-needed service for parents.

The Adventure Campus before and after school program offered by Northbrook Park District has been an integral part of the recreation offerings for the community for 30 years. From August through June, the program typically serves over 500 children annually at five school locations in Northbrook School District 27 and Northbrook/Glenview School Districts 30 and 31.
