League of Women Voters of Glenview-Glencoe installs new board for 2022-23

The League of Women Voters of Glenview-Glencoe announces the installation of its new board for the 2022-23 year.

Sue Swaringen and Kris Iida were elected president and secretary, respectively, each for a second term. They join current vice president Sue Gregory and treasurer Karen Cunningham as officers. Kate McMahon Gazda and Eileen Ribordy were elected as directors for a two-year term and former president, Ann Yoshida, was appointed for a one-year director role. They join current directors Tara Call, Sarah Hill and Laura Sailor.

The board was expanded by two seats this year as the League embarks on an ambitious 2022-23 agenda. With the 2022 midterm and 2023 consolidated elections coming up, plans are in place for robust voter education and turnout programs. In addition, affordable housing advocacy, gun violence prevention and reproductive health rights are top priorities.

The League of Women Voters of Glenview-Glencoe is also focused on an ambitious Civics Project to encourage elected official decision making based on greater community input through civil discourse. These days, many people are frustrated with government, uncertain about how to convey their opinions, and do not trust that their input matters.

The Civics Project will document and communicate practices and policies currently in place for residents to interact with public sector boards in Glenview, Northbrook, and Glencoe. The goal is to rebuild trust and public engagement in the democratic process. Where improvements are necessary, the League will then advocate for change.

The League of Women Voters of Glenview-Glencoe is actively seeking new members; all those aged 16 and older are welcome. For information about the League, its mission, and ways to get involved, visit www.lwvglens.org.

The League of Women-Voters of Glenview-Glencoe is a nonpartisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and seeks to influence public policy through education and advocacy.
