Donate school supplies for NSYMCA's drive

As many local families face financial hardship, the North Suburban YMCA is working to ensure that students in the Northern Chicago area have the supplies they need to start the school year off right.

To do that, the Y is hosting a school supply drive through July 31.

The schools slotted for the donations include Twain Elementary Schools in Wheeling's School District 21 and Forrestal Elementary in Great Lake's School District 187 (K-3). The drive is a collaborative effort made possible by the YMCA's Social Responsibility Committee.

"Having access to proper school supplies is an integral part of a students' success. Our goal for this drive and for our Social Responsibility Committee at the NSYMCA is to help kids achieve success while lessening the financial burden that many students, families and teachers face in the fall," said Kim Gruemmer, a member of the NSYMCA Social Responsibility Committee.

"We believe that when we help even one child, we help build a better future for everyone."

The school supplies being collected at the Y include: paper, scissors, notebooks, crayons, washable markers, pencils, glue sticks, grade school reading books, new backpacks, book bags and messenger bags, and monetary donations.

All school supply and monetary donations can be made at the NSYMCA, 2705 Techny Road, Northbrook.

The NSYMCA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. For information, visit www.nsymca.org or call (847) 272-7250.
