April 29 program at St. Thomas the Apostle Church explores 'Foods of the Bible'

Imagine you lived some 2,000 years ago and you wanted to prepare a meal. What would your menu include? How would you prepare the food? What ingredients would you use? How would you serve it?

Plan to attend the "Foods of the Bible" program that will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 29, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. A biblical scholar who also is a great cook will share our foremothers' secrets of food preparation, preservation and presentation.

Joan Gorski, the director of the Biblical Institute of the Diocese of Joliet who has made it her life's work to introduce others to the many aspects of Scripture, will be the guest presenter. She is a professor of Biblical studies at the Biblical Institute and a professor at the Chicago Scripture School.

Also a former faculty member at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Gorski holds a bachelor's degree from Benedictine University in Lisle, a master's degree from DePaul University, and a doctoral degree from the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein.

The program is sponsored by Sophia's Circle, a ministry of the adult faith formation department which presents micro-retreats three times a year for women to grow in spirituality and friendship.

Wearing face masks is recommended, and hand sanitizer will be available.

Bring your friends or make some new ones when you come so you can enjoy each other's company, get a peek into our foremothers' lives, and enjoy refreshments that will include some ancient treats. A suggested donation of $10 a person in cash or by check is payable at the door for this "taste" of those really ancient good ol' days.

Reservations to ensure adequate seating are requested by Tuesday, April 26, by email at readmin@stapotle.org or by phone at (630) 355-8980, ext. 118. Be sure to include the names and phone numbers of all members in your party who will attend. Walk-ins also will be welcome.
