Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame Holds Bowling Fundraiser

Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame Celebrity Bowl-a-thon Fundraiser Returns April 30.

The annual Dick Uyvari Memorial Celebrity Bowl-a-thon, a popular fundraiser for the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame, returns on Saturday, April 30, after a brief hiatus during the pandemic. Bowlers from Chicago's LGBT bowling tournaments and teams take on local celebrities and personalities for a fun event raising money to help fund the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame. The event starts with registration at 10 a.m. at Waveland Bowl, 3700 N. Western Ave., followed by bowling at 11 a.m., and wrap-up at noon. A continental breakfast is provided by Ann Sather's Restaurant.

The Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame is the first such organization launched by a city in the world. It honors the contributions and achievements of individuals, organizations, and friends of our community in the Chicago area. People can support the event by both bowling and raising pledges from friends, or they can donate to a bowler or the event itself. For about how to participate or donate contact Kathy Caldwell at (773) 307-2673 or Gary Liss at (312) 246-9411.

Donations can be sent to Friends of the Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame, 3712 N. Broadway, #637, Chicago, IL 60613-4235. Online donations can be made through Paypal. Those sponsoring a bowler can indicate their name on the memo line of the check, or in the additional information section of the link on Paypal: http://tinyurl.com/mwow4kc.

The event is held in honor of Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame member, the late Dick Uyvari, a community activist and philanthropist, for more information or to learn how you can help, by bowling or pledging to support a bowler, visit the organization's website, chicagolgbthalloffame.org/ or its Facebook page, www.facebook.com/groups/56108152083/.

The Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame is both a historic event and an exhibit. Through the Hall of Fame, residents of Chicago and the world are made aware of the contributions of Chicago's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, and the community's efforts to eradicate homophobic bias and discrimination. Since its inception in 1991, its mission has continued to expand. In addition to the selection of each year's new inductees a substantial portion of our time is devoted to being custodian of records for the exemplary inductees we have honored. As time passes, its goal is to see that the achievements of the community's predecessors are not lost or forgotten. Friends of the Chicago LGBT of Fame is a not-for-profit Illinois corporation formed in 2009 to aid the Hall of Fame. It is recognized as a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions to it are tax-deductible to the maximum extent allowed by law.
