Sound check: Reconnect with Collective Soul at the Genesee

'90s alt-rock powerhouse Collective Soul bring its distinctive crossover hits to Waukegan this weekend for a show at the Genesee Theatre. The band, which took over MTV and radio with “Shine,” “December,” “The World I Know” and more, will be joined by Minneapolis trio American Scarecrows for the night of nostalgic favorites.

Underbelly Hours showcase

Adela and Dan, hosts of the West suburban-based Underbelly Hours podcast, present the first UBH Spotlight showcase of 2022 at Wheaton's Dry City Brew Works. As well as exploring the underground music scene in and around Chicago, the duo has booked songwriter Ryan Burns and Pierce Crask (of The Falling Martins) for the lineup of this edition of the monthly series.

SNÜZFEST is back

Get your jammies ready! After celebrating the fifth annual SNÜZFEST at home last year, Streamwood native Kevin Andrew and his Guardrail bandmates — Schaumburg native Ken Ugel, Alyssa Laessig of Des Plaines and Doug Brand from Tinley Park — are bringing the pop-punk pajama party back in person to Chicago's Beat Kitchen this weekend. A $12 ticket nets you an eight-band lineup — hosted by Pop-Punk & Pizza Podcast's Jacques Lamore — featuring Guardrail, Much The Same, Hi Ho, splits, Won't Stay Dead, The Brash Menagerie, OK Cool, and Eddy & The Arsons.

Fletcher Rockwell

Fletcher Rockwell has been kicking around Chicago and the suburbs with its harmonic, sometimes humorous and always a little in-your-face spin on Americana rock for about a dozen years now, playing stages across the scene and beyond. This weekend, the band heads back to one of its favorite haunts for a set at Naperville's Quigley's.

Future Stars at Nellie's

Nellie's monthly Future Stars showcase returns this weekend with three acts Sunday: Sara Bella, Jagger and David's House. The family-friendly show also features food and drink specials, so fans can grab a little dinner with the show.

Blooming Artists at Hey Nonny

Since its opening in 2018, Hey Nonny has devoted considerable time giving a stage to intimate performances by up-and-coming musicians, many from the Chicago and suburban music scenes. Next week, the venue presents its new free concert series, the Blooming Artists Showcase, bringing talent on the rise to fans at its listening room. The premiere set next Tuesday features the ethereal Jagger, Darryl Markette's country sound and soulful singer-songwriter Andrew Robinson.

Meat Loaf tribute

On the tails of Meat Loaf's recent passing, Onesti Entertainment presents BAT: A Celebration of Meat Loaf. The show will salute the consummate performer with music from his catalog played by his own live band Neverland Express and featuring the vocal skills of “American Idol” season 13 winner Caleb Johnson.

• After two years of COVID-induced cancellations, Blues on the Fox organizers announced its return for the 24th celebration of the blues this summer. The two-day bash — Friday and Saturday, June 17-18, at RiverEdge Park in Aurora — will feature Shemekia Copeland and Kenny Wayne Shepherd the first night, with Buddy Guy, Mindi Abair and The Boneshakers, Billy Branch and Melody Angel taking over the outdoor venue on Saturday. • Over the last two years, Chicago nonprofit Quiet Pterodactyl coordinated the release of two compilation albums of Chicago-area musicians — “Situation Chicago” and “Situation Chicago 2” — as fundraisers for the Chicago Independent Venue League, supporting venues and artists struggling during the pandemic lockdowns. On March 15 and 16, some of the featured artists will take the stage for two nights of Situation Chicago Live concerts at the Empty Bottle (1035 N.
