The ARK raises record-breaking $84,000 for Jews in need during Purim celebration

As part of the annual Purim celebration, The ARK, a local nonprofit who helps Chicago area Jews, honored the "Mitzvot of Purim," a part of which is giving to those in need. Thanks to the compassion and generosity of many donors, The ARK raised a record-breaking $84,000 via in-person and online donations to support those in need. The funds raised went directly to clients of The ARK to support their immediate financial needs including rent, mortgage, healthcare payments and more. Additionally, The ARK food pantries in both West Rogers Park and Northbrook received generous donations from various Purim food drives including groceries and toiletries.

To ensure all members of the Jewish community could properly celebrate the four main mitzvot of Purim, specifically that of a celebration meal, volunteers delivered food baskets and hot meals leading up to the holiday. The ARK staff members and volunteers dressed in costume to celebrate Purim (safely) as clients came to pick up their donations. The rabbi also worked diligently to bring Purim to those in need through a virtual program featuring the traditional megillah reading (one of the Purim mitzvot), music and celebration to create the sense of community for those who feel isolated.

The ARK is continually thankful to all donors and volunteers for their support of The ARK and those Chicago area Jews in need, especially during COVID-19. While the traditional holiday celebrations look different this year, the nonprofit looks forward to celebrating together in person soon!
