Triage Cancer will offer free webinar Aug. 19 to share latest information on employment, health insurance and more, as many return to work during COVID-19
As businesses begin to reopen and employees are asked to return to work, many people are faced with difficult decisions and situations, especially those who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
To share information about options and resources available during COVID-19, Triage Cancer will offer a free live webinar from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Central on Wednesday, Aug. 19. This event, part of the organization's monthly educational webinar series, will provide the latest on changes to employment protections, including new options for paid sick leave, paid family leave and unemployment benefits.
The webinar also will address other issues that people might be struggling with, like losing health insurance, and will share assistance programs and resources related to student loans, evictions, utilities, food insecurity, cash assistance and more.
The webinar is open to healthcare professionals, caregivers and individuals diagnosed with cancer, as well as anyone who has questions about a return to work during COVID-19. Participants can register for free at https://triagecancer.org. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the speakers questions in real time via a chat-box. For those who are unable to attend the live webinar, a recording will be on the Triage Cancer website.
"We want people to know they have many options for getting access to care and the things they need," says Joanna Morales, CEO of Triage Cancer, who will lead the webinar. "And we believe it's important to get this information to the public now, as many people are losing jobs or being asked to go back to their workplaces."
Morales adds that Triage Cancer expects to see even greater need for the organization's services and expertise in the coming months, due to increases in cancer diagnoses brought on by people not getting preventive services and testing they need during the pandemic.
The Triage Cancer webinar is offered in partnership with many national cancer nonprofits, which are promoting the event to their memberships.
"We are the only organization in the cancer community that is providing education about these key issues," Morales says. "We're thankful to everyone who is helping spread the word so that more people can have access to this essential information that is changing so frequently."
She adds that the webinar's content will be updated "up to the minute" so that the very latest and most relevant information and resources can be shared.
