Beau Cunningham, 18, of Batavia throws his hands in the air as his name is called out as the 20th and final "Lucky 20" winner at the grand opening celebration for Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers in Batavia Thursday. Cunningham, a senior at Batavia High School, won free Cane's for a year. He said his mom called him absent from school so he and a group of friends could attend. "She flat out told them the truth that I was coming here," he said. He said he'd never eaten at Raising Cane's before.

Janet Haugen, of Palatine was on the hunt for the elusive Barred Owl and the Carolina Wren in Deer Grove East forest preserve as she struggled through the wet falling snow with her Cannon camera. The birds were spotted by another bird-watcher a couple of days before so she thought she would try her luck but in the end the birds remained camouflaged in their natural surroundings.
