The theme for 2019 -2020 concert series is "One Voice." Each of us has a unique voice. Each of us has something valuable to say. Joining together in song. Our uniqueness becomes a part of "One Voice" that speaks of peace, truth and humanity through time and around the globe.

On Sunday, Nov. 3, the concert will be "One Voice: For Peace" at 4 p.m. Voices in Harmony will perform "A Sermon from the Mountain," a work by one of America's foremost choral composers and arrangers, Alice Parker. The work celebrates the words and values of Martin Luther King Jr. Composed shortly after his assassination, Parker uses the musical styles of spirituals, gospel music, blues and American folk music to personalize the message "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

On Sunday, Dec. 15, "One Voice: Sing-Along Messiah" at 4 p.m. Community and choir join their voices in harmony with Handel's great masterwork accompanied by a 23-piece orchestra, excellent soloists and projections of beautiful calligraphy by Timothy Botts. The McHenry County College Chorus will supplement the onstage choir. This is one of our area's most meaningful holiday traditions, and a strong vision of hope proclaimed in one voice.

On Saturday, April 4, "One Voice: Around The World" will be performed at 4 and 7 p.m. This concert season marks a new chapter for Voices in Harmony, as they become part of Encore! Music Academy. The two concerts showcase the four Encore Youth Choirs and Voices in Harmony, showing that choral singing is a lifelong, life-enriching activity. Voices in Harmony combines with two Encore Youth choirs to present the choral masterwork, Antonio Vivaldi's "Gloria," accompanied by full orchestra. There will be several pieces combining all five choirs, and each choir will be featured in their own selections of music from around the world.
