Troop 37 to host Annual Webelos Invitational Sept. 7

The Boy Scouts of Troop 37 will host their annual Webelos Invitational from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. This outdoor event is available to all youth with an emphasis on fourth- and fifth-graders who are current members of a Cub Scout pack and sixth-graders interested in joining Scouts.

Troop 37 Scouts will help the Cub Scouts earn Webelos activity requirements with fun activities. Optional overnight camping with a parent from Saturday night to Sunday morning is also available for a Scout camp experience.

RSVP to Scoutmaster Thom Banholzer at tbanh30@yahoo.com so that the troop can plan for enough supplies.

The Troop 37 Invitational will be held at Camp Alphonse, Deer Grove West Forest Preserve, 1393 W. Dundee Road, in Palatine. Parking is available at the forest preserve lot on the north side of Dundee Road, about one half-mile west of Quentin Road.

Troop 37 has a 75+ year history and is sponsored by the St. Peter's Lutheran Laymen's League in Arlington Heights. The troop is open to all boys interested in Scouting. In recent years Troop 37 has earned numerous honors including:

- Most Eagle Scouts in District

- Arlington Heights Hearts of Gold

- Camp Napowan Honor Troop

The troop has outings and activities every month of the year. Recent adventures have included:

- caving at Maquoketa State Park, Iowa

- backpack hiking on the Ice Age Trail

- charter boat fishing on Lake Michigan

- canoeing on the Galena River and Boundary Waters Canoe Area

- bicycling the historic Wisconsin Elroy-Sparta Trail

- skiing at Cascade Mountain, WI

- rock climbing at Devils Lake State Park, WI

- and, camping at Camp Napowan, Rock Cut State Park and more

Troop 37's mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Members of Troop 37 range from ages 11 to 17 and come from several communities including Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Roselle, Barrington and more.
