Carmel Catholic's robotics team qualifies for world championship

Carmel Catholic High School's NYAN Robotics team will compete at the FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship April 24-27 in Detroit. The team, currently fifth in the world and the top-ranked team in Illinois, participated in the world championship last year, finishing in ninth place.

NYAN qualified for the world championship at the Illinois FTC State Championship Feb. 23. At state, NYAN finished first in its division and was the first seed alliance captain.

Although the team suffered its first loss of the season, NYAN still set state and world records.

The team also won the coveted Innovate Award, given to the team that has the most innovative and creative robot design solution. This award, in addition to finishing first in their division, double qualified NYAN to go to the world championship.

There was only one other team at the state championship that double qualified.
