Glenbard Parent Series to present 'Beyond the Blues: Understanding Teen Depression'

The Glenbard Parent Series Navigating Healthy Families will present "Beyond the Blues: Understanding Teen Depression" on Friday, Feb. 8.

Jason Washburn, a licensed clinical psychologist and board-certified specialist in clinical child and adolescent psychology, will speak at noon at the Community Consolidated School District 93 administration center, 230 Covington Drive in Bloomingdale.

Teenage depression is more common than people may realize. It is more than feeling sad, and it isn't just a bad mood. It can alter every aspect of an adolescent's life.

Washburn will discuss how parents/guardians and professionals can help identify and respond to teenage depression. Attendees will learn how teen depression is different from the normal ups and downs of adolescence as Washburn separates warning signs of real concern from the erratic behavior so typical of the teen years.

Learn how adults can intervene, as well as the treatment options for teens when depression is identified.

Continuing professional development units are available.

Washburn is the director of evidence-based practice at the Amita Behavioral Medicine Institute, an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and director of education and clinical training for clinical psychology at Northwestern University.
