Advocate Sherman Hospital to host 'Music by the Water' event Aug. 26

On Sunday, Aug. 26, Advocate Sherman Hospital and the Advocate Charitable Foundation will host the "Music by the Water" luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. on the hospital's lakeside terrace, 1425 N. Randall Road in Elgin.

Now in its eighth year, "Music by the Water" raises funds for Advocate Sherman's Musicians Care program.

"Music by the Water" offers live entertainment, food and drinks overlooking the 15-acre geothermal lake on the hospital's campus.

Performing will be The Reason Why; the Elgin Symphony Orchestra-affiliated Moeller cello and guitar duo; and The Moonlighters, a band composed of Sherman physicians.

There also will be dancing.

"Studies have shown that music has positive physical effects, such as reducing heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels," shares Jo Amick, vice president of development, Advocate Charitable Foundation, "We are thankful to the individuals and corporations that make charitable contribution to our Musicians Care Program. With their assistance, we are able to provide regularly scheduled professional performers for the benefit of our patients, their families and our caregivers."

The Musician Care program has an Elgin Symphony Orchestra quartet play at the hospital and Advocate Sherman West Court every week to play music for patients and families. It also provides a therapeutic musician every Tuesday.

Sponsored by local physician practices, businesses, Sherman team members and community members, the event's two major sponsors this year are OrthoIllinois and Vituity.

Tickets are $100, $50 for children under age 10.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with lunch at noon with music by the Moeller Cello and Guitar Duo, followed by The Moonlighters at 1 p.m. and The Reason Why at 2 p.m. At 3 p.m., the raffle winner will be announced.
