Harbour Hustle produced many benefits for homeless youth agency

The first Harbour Hustle held recently at One Rotary Center in Evanston resulted in many positive outcomes for The Harbour, a social service agency dedicated serving young women experiencing homelessness in the North/Northwest Suburbs.

"The event was designed to bring The Harbour services into one of the many communities that it serves to build awareness, share the mission, and come together to shine a light on youth homelessness," said Kris Salyards, executive director, The Harbour, with headquarters in Park Ridge.

Salyards pointed out there were nine teams of four members each registered, with an additional 11 individuals registered for a total of 47 climbers. Runners climbed 18 flights of stairs, twice at One Rotary Center.

"We had teams comprised of board members, Harbour staff and many of the individual donors for that day were solicited by the staff supporting the event," Salyards explained.

The Harbour Hustle received 49 donations and sponsor revenue in the amount of $4,000 for the first-time event. Sponsors included: A & A Custom Shirts and Promotional Projects, Bagel Art Café, Starbucks, Jewel Osco, Store 3461, The Unicorn Café, Complete Chiropractic and Rehab, Doozie Creative Services, Rx Bars, La Macchina and Sam's Club.

"The overall comments were that is was a great event, well organized and managed, great energy, made us proud of The Harbour to see our logo on the T-shirts and water bottles, helped us make new friends," Salyards added.
