Algonquin Garden Club plant sale a success
Although the weather was in the 40s, damp with a threat of rain, the Algonquin Garden Club had a wonderful showing for its annual spring plant sale Saturday, May 12, at a new location.
This year's sale was held at 1140 E. Algonquin Road, by Diamond Physical Therapy. It featured hundreds of plants, including perennials dug from members' yards, hanging baskets, geraniums, and tomatoes, just in time for Mother's Day.
The proceeds of this sale are used for local student scholarships and for the beautification and maintenance of gardens in Algonquin.
The scholarships, which range from $500 to $2,000, are given for one academic year to residents of Algonquin or Lake n the Hills. The funds must be applied toward tuition, fees, or books, and it is sent directly to the school designated by the recipients.
These scholarships are awarded in memory of deceased members of the Algonquin Club. The purpose is to provide financial assistance to individuals seeking a career in the fields of horticulture, conservation, agriculture, landscape architecture, forestry, or environmental studies.
