Glenbard's Live Life Well Week includes events for community, students
Glenbard District 87 students and staff will celebrate Live Life Well Week from Feb. 19-24. Live Life Well Week is designed to enhance self-awareness, healthy decision-making and effective management of stress and other challenges.
The week kicks off with the district-wide Make a Difference Monday, Presidents Day of Service event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the Ackerman Sports and Fitness Center in Glen Ellyn.
All Glenbard students are invited to join in making blankets that will be donated to local hospitals for children with cancer. Pizza and blanket making supplies will be provided.
During the week, students will hear from former NBA player Chris Herren, who realized his dream of playing for the Boston Celtics only to lose it all to addiction. He will share his journey to recovery as he inspires students to live a drug-free lifestyle.
The community will have the opportunity to hear Herren share his life-affirming experiences at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Glenbard East High School as part of the Glenbard Parent Series. Herren will present "Unguarded/Basketball Junkie: My Message to Parents." Details at glenbardgps.org.
Just a few of the activities students will be involved in throughout the week: mindfulness activities related to responsible decision making, self-awareness and self-management, as well as morning yoga, Zumba healthy breakfast and activities for self-care and getting involved at school.
Thanks go to Glenbard's Students for Students clubs, who have organized substance abuse prevention awareness activities for this event. Thanks also go to the Glenbard District 87 Wellness Committee, pupil personnel services teams and school staff who have organized mindfulness activities and much more to enhance well-being.
